I am excited to participate in the 40th Annual Ben to the Shore, which supports the Families Behind the Badge Children's Foundation!  

As you may recall several of Kevin Saint Clair’s rowing former teammates and friends created a bike team in 2024 to fundraise in his memory and perpetuate his legacy. He was a Vesper Boat Club athlete, US National Team member, coach, a friend to many, and a lifelong inspiring and kind schoolteacher. The annual ride from Ben Franklin Bridge to Atlantic City in its 40th year, is the signature fundraiser for Families Behind the Badge Children’s Foundation.  Its mission: To support families of fallen first responders; first responders’ mental health; and programs for their children in need. Our longtime Vesper supporter and former lightweight, Mark O’Connor, is the Executive Director.

In Team Kevin’s first year, our fundraising effort enabled the Foundation to establish a 4-year scholarship for a Philadelphia high school student (see photo).  We aim to expand the scholarship every year we ride to other deserving school students in need of assistance. To do so for 2026 we would like more riders and especially donors to join Team Kevin Saint Clair. It really is perfectly fitting that a significant portion of funds raised by “Team Kevin Saint Clair” will provide educational funding benefits each year for children in need in our community.  

This year, the ride is Sunday July 26th. You may join our team and cycle 10, 30, or 65 miles and then celebrate with your family and friends at the ride’s After Party at the finish line in Atlantic City. Last year, 2,290+ total riders and 100+ teams raised more than $1,450,000!
